Foliage 2018 - current notes - as of Oct 9th
The color is as beautiful as I ever remember seeing in my 20 years here!
The weather, after a bit of rain, continues mostly sunny and mild temps.
All up and down Rte 5 and the CT River Valley, now at 40% - 60% color.
Hill sides are photo perfect in color! Different this year as they turned from the bottom up!
I drove my "Peacham Loop Tour" this week end -- stop and ask me for a copy of the tour --
My favorite trees are the stand alone maples that are a mix of red, yellow, orange, and green!
Among all of the colorful trees are still many green maples yet to get the message and turn.
My Ash Trees carpeted the ground with their leaves. My huge front Maple is still mostly green.

Subject to a strong rain or wind storm I would expect good color through Oct 20th.
Let me guide your touring and leaf peeping. Rooms still available on most evenings.
Stay two nights for best rates. Stay a 3rd or 4th night for discounts.

Check out color as it is reported at FoliageNetwork.com
My predictions are from my uneducated amateur 20 years of record keeping.
Foliage Network .com is an actual which is reported twice a week from spotters all over the northeast.

The Old Homestead has been an Inn since 1919, and Barnet is still a quiet Village in the Connecticut River Valley in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.  You will find Old World New England Charm and warmth with 21st Century amities for your comfort. If you love antiques opt for the White Mountain Room with its big ornate head board.  If your tastes run toward the modern you will love the Rose Garden Room.  Throughout the Inn you will find the treasures of several families for your enjoyment.

Summer InnGail invites you to relax by the fire in a winter wonderland, or revel in the spring mud season and see life bursting forth before your eyes. In the summer, enjoy the gardens and in the autumn experience the pallet of fall colors and festivals which make Vermont everyone's vacation destination. Ski, hike, cycle, swim, picnic, kayak, experience history or spirituality, revel in the arts, see a film, or 'day trip' around the area sampling Vermont's speciality food and cuisines, crafts and Nature. Experience and understand why this is our 'Special Kingdom'! .

The Old Homestead and the Double Reed Shop share the same roof. If you are a musician, especially an oboe or bassoon player, consider a get-away visit, a Chamber Music Party, or a Rehearsal Retreat for your ensemble. With access to 9,500 print music titles from which to read. Choose your next season's concerts from our offerrings. Gail is also available to coach, to give a lesson, or help with reed making if this appeals to your musical need.

Check out the Local Events and Attractions Page for Special Musical and Arts Events in the area. Enjoy an Arts Patron Special Rate when you book for two nights or more at the Inn. Always enjoy a three course gourmet breakfast, a tastefully appointed room, comfortable common areas, reasonable rates, and knowledgeable guidance for your 'day tripping' and local experience. A variety of activities will fit your style and await your visit, so plan to unpack your bags and stay awhile to completely experience Northeast Vermont.
